Estimates of worldwide spending on health in 2040 make gloomy reading for policymakers and researchers in Africa, with the continent forecast to lag behind the rest of the world.
Africa’s projected per capita spending on health is the most troubling. Sub-Saharan Africa’s estimated spend of US$307 per capita on health by 2040 is almost 10 times less than the global average.
The figures come from a brace of articles in The Lancet on global health spending patterns.
