A programme honing African mid-career researchers’ leadership skills will, starting this year, give extra support to help mothers of newborn babies travel to its workshops.
The African Science Leadership Programme is funded by the University of Pretoria in South Africa in partnership Germany’s Robert Bosch Stiftung. An important part of the programme, which aims to train fellows in thought leadership, team management and research development, is a week-long networking and meeting in South Africa.
But by surveying previous fellows, ASLP has found that women who had recently given birth struggled to attend these meetings.
