Ethiopia and Tunisia join mental health stigma project

Researchers from Ethiopia and Tunisia will join in an international initiative on stigma in mental health funded by the United Kingdom’s Medical Research Council.

The £2 million (US$2.63m) project will involve Addis Ababa University and Razi Hospital as well as partners in China, Germany, India, Switzerland, the United States and the UK. Graham Thornicroft from King’s College London will lead it.

“In the course of this study staff in the whole partnership will support research staff in China, Ethiopia, India and Tunisia to develop their research skills and their careers, so that they can establish centres of excellence in stigma research in each of these countries in future,” said Thornicroft in a statement.
