Ugandan law professor calls decolonisation process ‘huge and daunting’ but necessary

Colonialism is still deeply entrenched in African universities, including in science, a Ugandan activist and scholar has warned.

“No discipline is spared from the one-sided colonial bias,” Sylvia Tamale, a law professor and feminist activist at Makerere University in Uganda, said during a talk at Stellenbosch University in South Africa on 22 October. Her public lecture formed part of the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study’s colloquium on research in Africa on 21-23 October.
