Open science advocate says African governments hold back adoption

Incentives lacking as policymakers ‘not clued up on how the internet works’

Open access in Africa is taking shape but governments aren’t coming to the party, a South African open science advocate has said.

Ina Smith of the Academy of Science of South Africa, managed a three-year pilot project for the African Open Science Platform, a continental initiative which—when operational—will aim to coordinate the advancement of open science in Africa.
