West Africa dominates ‘women in science’ awards

Majority of L’Oreal-Unesco winners’ work in health or biological sciences

Researchers from West Africa won the majority of the 2019 L’Oreal-Unesco For Women in Science programme’s Young Talent Awards for sub-Saharan Africa. The winners were announced on 22 November in Dakar, Senegal.

Half of the 20 winners come from West Africa. Two winners each hail from Cameroon, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal and Zimbabwe, and one each from Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo,The Gambia, Madagascar, Mauritius, South Africa, Uganda and Zambia.
