Africa CDC launches $100m disease genomics programme

Partnership brings together governments, philanthropy and global technology corporations

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has secured US$100 million for pathogen genomics research on the continent, it announced on 12 October. 

The four-year Africa Pathogen Genomics Initiative is a collaboration between the African CDC and its United States counterpart, as well as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, software giant Microsoft, genomics sequencing technology company Illumina and United Kingdom-based biotechnology company Oxford Nanopore.
