Research should target new diagnostics, medicines and vaccines, as Covid and wars worsen TB burden
The Stop TB Partnership has called for an increase in funding for tuberculosis R&D to meet the world’s goal of ending the disease by 2030.
In a statement on 22 March ahead of World Tuberculosis Day (24 March), the Stop TB Partnership estimated that nearly US$20 billion will be needed yearly for prevention and care to meet the goal. This is a “substantial” increase from the pre-Covid-19 estimate of US$13bn a year.
