Pasteur Institute and Mastercard to train African vaccine workforce

US$45 million skills drive targets African youth, especially women

Senegal’s Dakar Pasteur Institute and the Mastercard Foundation are to collaborate to train the skilled people Africa needs to manufacture its own vaccines.

The pair announced their US$45 million Manufacturing in Africa for Disease Immunization and Building Autonomy (Madiba) partnership on 2 June. They will set up a training centre in vaccine research, manufacturing, production and distribution, which will aim to equip young people and especially women with the necessary skills.
