Medical academies want role in capacity building

International health academies are lobbying for a greater role in efforts to build research capacity in poor countries, in order to ensure they bear fruit.

In a 28 May statement, members of the Interacademy Medical Panel (IAMP) complain that existing capacity-building initiatives have failed in poor countries.

For example, it writes, in sub-Saharan Africa the initiatives have failed to increase the quality and number of researchers.
