SA-NIH medical research grant winners announced

The University of Cape Town received the highest number of grants in the first round of a collaborative funding programme between the South African Medical Research Council and the US National Institutes of Health.

UCT won 10 of the 24 grants in the US$8 million grant round announced on 13 April, which was devoted to collaborative projects between South African and US researchers.

The University of the Witwatersrand Health Consortium won five grants, followed by four for the Centre for the AIDS Programme of Research in South Africa, based at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, and Stellenbosch University with three.
