South Africa and China have expanded their collaboration in environmental research with the launch of a centre and an agreement to establish another.
The two countries signed an agreement to establish a South Africa-China Joint Research Centre of Clean Energy during the International Conference on Biorefinery in Johannesburg on 19-21 August.
No hosts or partners have been named for the centre, but a statement from South Africa’s Department of Science and Innovation quoted Chinese ambassador Lin Songtian as saying it will focus on “clean energy and environmental protection technology”.
