Facebook funds African research into artificial intelligence ethics

Studies include automated weapons systems and AI in healthcare

Tech giant Facebook has awarded US$200,000 to African researches for work on ethics and human rights related to applications of artificial intelligence on the continent.

The winners were announced on 2 November. The project is a collaboration between South Africa’s Human Sciences Research Council and Facebook, the former coordinating the project and the latter supplying the funding.
