Partnership boosts ‘fragile and inadequate’ data systems in Africa

  

Initiative will increase health data interoperability and curb duplication to fight coronavirus

The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa has partnered with the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data to improve the quality and use of data in Africa in the fight against Covid-19.

Data systems for health and other areas of policy in Africa are “often fragile and frequently inadequate”, explained Vera Songwe, Uneca executive secretary, in a statement. The initiative will scale up existing solutions to make sure data is used to save lives during the pandemic.
