Rwandan wins African women in science honour

Paediatrician and former health minister recognised for public healthcare role

Agnes Binagwaho, a Rwandan paediatrician, has won the €100,000 (US$115,000) African 2021 L’Oréal-UNESCO Awards for Women in Science.

Binagwaho is the vice-chancellor of the Global Health Equity University in Kigali. She is one of this year’s five prizewinners—Africa and the Middle East together make up one of the regions in which the awards are offered.
