Centenary campaign benefits from network launched last month
University of Witwatersrand alumni living in Australia have donated R80 million ($4.9m) towards the South African institution’s centenary campaign to support research and other initiatives. And more donations may flow through a new alumni network.
Wits’ centenary campaign, launched in March this year, aims to raise R3 billion towards teaching, research and innovation, infrastructure developments and students. Lawrence Jackson, a representative for Wits based in Australia, said the donated funds will prioritise learning at the institution.
