Oceanographer Mathieu Rouault swam through shoals of altimetry data to discover a new current in the globally important Agulhas system swirling along the east African coastline.
French-born Rouault is the principal research officer in oceanography at the Marine Research Institute at the University of Cape Town (UCT) in South Africa.
