The newly appointed director of the built environment programme of South Africa’s Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) says he wants to grow his department’s total budget by 15 per cent in the next few years.
Cornelius Ruiters, whose appointment was announced on 12 January, said in an interview that he hopes to secure the increase to the current budget of R145 million (US$18.7m) over the next 3-5 years. Ruiters, a civil engineer, wants the increase to fund new equipment and researchers.
