Mammoth loan to boost Zambian science education

Zambia’s government is to receive a US$33.6 million low-interest loan from the African Development Bank to bolster science and technology education.

The five-year Support to Science and Technology Education Project will aim to improve access to science and technology training at Zambian institutions of higher learning, as well as improve the quality and relevance of the training.

The majority of the project will be funded by the AfDB loan. But the Zambian government and the private sector will add an extra US$4.94m and US$675,000, respectively. In total, the project will have a budget of nearly US$40m.
