Huge HIV/TB vaccine call gets Valentine’s deadline

South Africa’s Medical Research Council has issued a call for applications to undertake collaborative research on tuberculosis vaccine development, as well as on HIV vaccines and prevention.

The Strategic Health Innovation Partnership call will fund “a small number of large, highly collaborative programmes” through a funding partnership between the MRC, South Africa’s Department of Science and Technology and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The MRC says successful applications need to address three goals: to discover biomarkers of the diseases and novel immune correlates; to improve models for vaccination; and to investigate new formulations and methods for administering TB vaccines.
