Second BRICS university ranking offers new perspective

Eight South African universities made the top 100 out of 400 hopefuls from the BRICS economic bloc, in yet another university ranking focusing on institutions in emerging economies.

The inaugural Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) University Rankings: BRICS was published on 17 December. It joins the Times Higher Education BRICS and Emerging Economies University Rankings, published last month.

As per usual, the University of Cape Town in South Africa was the top performer, narrowly missing the Top 10 by reaching 11th position. Three other South African institutions join the Top 50: Stellenbosch University (30), the University of the Witwatersrand (31) and the University of Pretoria (43).
