Science and education politicians in ‘manhandling’ row

A science representative from South Africa’s main opposition party has laid charges of assault against the deputy minister for higher education and training, Mduduzi Manana.

Juanita Terblanche, Democratic Alliance deputy shadow minister of science and technology, laid the charges with the police after Manana allegedly “manhandled” her in parliament on 13 November, according to a DA statement.

The alleged scuffle occurred during parliament’s tumultuous sitting when police were called to remove an Economic Freedom Fighters MP, Ngwanamakwetle Mashabela, who refused to leave the podium.
