L’Oréal sets up research centre for African beauty products

Global cosmetics giant L’Oréal on 21 July opened a new research and innovation centre in South Africa which will specifically focus on African hair, skin and the needs of customers on the continent.

The Johannesburg centre is the seventh to be set up world-wide and will house a phalanx of scientists with expertise in chemistry, chemical engineering, physiology, cosmetology and biochemistry.

“We are starting with hair and our ambitions are much broader and cover the body, hygiene, skin care and makeup categories,” said Laurent Attal, L’Oréal’s executive vice-president of research and innovation, in a statement.
