A Ugandan academic who caused a sensation when she protested nude after being denied access to her Makerere University office has been appointed as a research fellow in South Africa.
On her Facebook page, Stella Nyanzi said that she has been “overwhelmed by the good cheer and celebratory messages” she received since announcing her tenure as a research fellow at the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study on 17 July.
Her nude protest in April was against what she called a “phallocentric culture of rape of labour rights” at Makerere. The incident was widely covered in the Ugandan media.
