Political parties contesting South Africa's local government elections this week offer precious little for science or research in their manifestoes.
The ANC gives the most attention to science of all the parties contesting the 3 August poll. Its manifesto even sports a scientist, pipette in hand, on the cover.
“[We will ensure] that municipalities incorporate science and technology into their programmes as catalysts for local economic development and deploy innovations such as the hydrogen fuel cell technology,” the party’s manifesto states.
