UCT braces itself for fees fallout

South African vice-chancellors are worried violent protests could resume when they announce fee levels for 2017 later this year.

Max Price, vice-chancellor of the University of Cape Town, highlighted the concern in a circular to staff and students on 28 August.

Price said that the university will not tolerate violent protests and would call in riot police if necessary. He said some students had already vowed to shut down universities should fees increase in 2017.
