SA launches digital language research centre

South Africa has launched a digital research hub to support and promote its 11 official languages.

Buti Manamela, the deputy minister of higher education, science and technology, launched the South African Centre for Digital Language Resources in Potchefstroom on 8 August.

Billed as a “multi-partner distributed research infrastructure”, the centre will involve the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, the Inter-institutional Centre for Language Development and Assessment, and the universities of South Africa, Pretoria, and North-West. NWU will be the host.
