Government promises laptops for all needy students

South Africa vows to deliver 730,000 computers—but admits funding is a challenge

South Africa’s Department of Higher Education and Training has promised to supply all poor students with laptops, but admitted they won’t all be delivered at once.

Higher education, science and technology minister Blade Nzimande said on 30 April said all 730,000 students who are supported by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme will receive laptops.
