Government to review almost 9,000 appeals against discontinued financial support

Some poor South African students will be allowed to fail more than once without losing their financial support, the minister of higher education, science and technology has said. 

Blade Nzimande made the announcement on 9 June during a media briefing on the higher education sector’s Covid-19 measures. It’s a U-turn: in late May, Nzimande levelled strong criticism against students pressing for such a measure.
