SA Journal of Science to change policies after race drama

‘Commentary’ pieces could face peer-review in future, editorial leadership hints

The South African Journal of Science is considering altering its editorial policies after the furore created by a controversial article on race.

The promise came in a foreword to a special edition of the journal published on 10 July to discuss the article, a non-peer-reviewed ‘commentary’ that presented exploratory research about why black students rarely study conservation at the University of Cape Town, which was slammed by many commentators as perpetuating racist tropes.
