Democratic Alliance says funding system for poor students is unsustainable

South Africa’s largest opposition party has called for fee-free higher education to be scrapped in its current form as it is unsustainable.

Chantel King, of the Democratic Alliance, said her party wants a “total review of the student funding model”. King was speaking during the debate on the Department of Higher Education and Training budget on 13 May.
