Quick guide to the ministerial review of South Africa's higher education, science and innovation landscape
South Africa’s government published a long-awaited ministerial review of the higher education, science, technology and innovation institutional landscape on 6 June. It diagnoses challenges facing the country’s National System of Innovation (NSI) and recommends ways to solve them.
The review committee, chaired by former University of Johannesburg vice-chancellor Ihron Rensburg, was set up by higher education and science minister Blade Nzimande three years ago. It bases its conclusions on consultations and discussions with government departments, research institutions, university bodies, development finance institutions, industry representatives and civil society organisations.
