Country aims to host emerging economy bloc’s first science and innovation foresight symposium

South Africa will hold a science ministerial, a young scientist forum, and a science policy and foresight symposium as part of its leadership of the BRICS bloc of emerging nations, the country’s science minister announced this week.

Addressing parliament for the 2023-24 science budget vote on 23 May, Blade Nzimande set out the country’s planned activities for its time at the helm of the group, which brings together Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa to discuss common challenges and interests.
