South Africa’s student aid scheme ‘not in crisis’, minister says

But Blade Nzimande has directed scheme’s board to improve payment methods and governance framework

South Africa’s higher education minister Blade Nzimande has denied that the country’s National Student Financial Aid Scheme is in a state of crisis.

However, Nzimande (pictured) admitted in a speech on 19 September that the scheme faces many challenges. He has directed its board to review its payout processes and governance design and to implement a new accountability framework to improve its performance.
