West African centres of excellence identified

The World Bank is to support 15 research institutes in West and Central Africa under its new ‘Centres of Excellence’ grant scheme.

The list published last month has to be approved by the bank’s board in early 2014. But the winners have already taken their selection as a guarantee of funding, boasting about their selection on their institutional websites.

The 15 centres standing to receive US$8 million each are located in seven countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, and Togo. They were selected from a total of 52 applications.
