US$40m research institute to be built in Cameroon

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture and the US’ University of California, Los Angeles are trying to raise US$40 million to build a research and training institute in Cameroon.

The partners have raised US$17m for the Congo Basin Institute, which will research climate change, health, food and water security, and biodiversity. It will be located in the capital, Yaoundé, and will also train scientists and postgraduate students.

The centre will comprise a data repository, a conference centre and remote sensing and molecular genetics laboratories.
