The presiding method of analysing research and development indicators paints a skewed picture of Africa and does not take into account the particular needs of developing nations, according to a Nigeria-based research team.
Five researchers form the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, examined methods measuring science, technology and innovation indicators, using their country’s 2008 survey as an example.
Their article, ‘From indicators to policy: issues from the Nigerian research and experimental development survey’, was published in the January edition of the International Journal of Technology, Policy and Management.
