One-week university strike kicks off in Nigeria

The Academic Staff Union of Universities in Nigeria embarked on a one-week warning strike on 16 November to protest the government’s failure to deliver on funding promises for universities.

The one-week strike might be followed by long-term action if the union’s demands are not met.

The union’s national president, Biodun Ogunyemi, told reporters on 15 November in Abuja that the chronic under-funding of the sector did not go down well with the union.
