Women agricultural researchers in Nigeria have formed a coalition with women farmers in the country in the hope of improving smallholders’ livelihoods.
The partnership, forged under the aegis of the Nigerian Women in Agricultural Research and Development, met on 13 July at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, during NiWARD’s fourth annual general meeting.
Half of Nigeria’s farmers are women, said Happiness Oselebe, an agricultural professor from Ebonyi State University. “Working together with them will help with quality food production, leading to better nutrition and a positive change in farmers’ standard of living”, she told the gathering.
