Nigeria has become the fifteenth African country to join the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership, the organisation announced on 20 September.
It will be represented by Akin Oyemakinde from the country’s federal health ministry and S.L. Salako from the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research in the EDCTP general assembly. Nigeria becomes the EDCTP’s 29th partner.
Moses Bockarie, South-South cooperation head at the EDCTP Africa office, said the country’s history and track record in medical research would be “enormously” beneficial to the group. According to the EDCTP, Nigeria formally signalled its intent to join in May.
