Ghana funds campus at new mining university

Ghana’s president Nana Akufo-Addo has announced a special budgetary allocation of GH¢5 million (US$1m) annually to the country’s new University of Mines and Technology in Tarkwa to construct and maintain a 20,000-student campus.

The announcement was made on 12 January at the swearing-in of former Ghanaian president, John Agyekum Kufuor, as the first chancellor of the university.

According to the Akufo-Addo, as reported by Ghana Web news, UMaT is positioning the country to becoming a global leader in mining.
