Sydney centre set up to strengthen links with China

A Chinese business leader has donated $1.8 million to fund a think tank at Sydney University of Technology which will aim to build stronger research links between China and Australia.

The Australia China Relations Institute at UTS will encourage collaborative research between the two countries in economics, business, education and social challenges.

Xiangmo Huang, founder and chairman of Shenzhen-based property development company, the Yuhu Group, presented the donation to UTS vice-chancellor Ross Milbourne (above, left) in Sydney in December. Huang also donated $1 million to the Children’s Medical Research Institute at Westmead Hospital at the function, which was attended by senior federal politicians, including Opposition leader Bill Shorten and former Treasurer, Chris Bowen.
