Australia risks being wedged between China and the United States on trade and regional security due to Donald Trump’s “chaotic” approach to foreign policy, a leading political analyst has warned.
Michael Fullilove said Trump was pursuing a dangerous “ad hoc policy approach to China” and has failed to grasp the complexities of Asian global politics.
Fullilove is executive director of the influential Sydney-based foreign policy think tank, the Lowy Institute, and was previously an adviser to former prime minister Paul Keating. He is also a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution policy research centre in Washington DC.
