Peacock advises postgrads on picking the right mentor

Early-career researchers should not be treated as drudges by industries looking to invest in PhD programmes, Cooperative Research Centres Association chief Tony Peacock says.

“The days of using PhD students and postdoctoral fellows as cheap labour are over,’’ he writes in The Least You Should Expect, an opinion piece posted on the Australian Academy of Science website.

“The PhD is a training degree for the elite and those that achieve their PhD deserve respect as professionals.”
