Queensland music lecturer and cultural development researcher Brydie-Leigh Bartleet has been named Australian University Teacher of the Year.
Bartleet is a senior lecturer at Griffith University in Brisbane and also deputy director of the Queensland Conservatorium research centre. She received the nation’s top teaching award for her work with Indigenous communities, prisoners and asylum seekers.
Announcing the federal government award on 10 December, education minister Christopher Pyne said Bartleet’s innovative approach to music learning and teaching brought together universities and community participants to achieve “a significant and lasting impact”.
