Peacock reflects on the subtext to CRC awards

The latest round of Cooperative Research Centre funding shows that the Abbott government will not be “a passive investor” in research, says CRC Association chief executive Tony Peacock.

In a CRC Association blog post, Peacock says federal industry minister Ian Macfarlane has sent a strong signal that the government favours a more active involvement in setting research priorities.

He says Macfarlane gave a “clear direction that he wants a highly potent manufacturing CRC” by rejecting two competing bids in this area, and asking them to work together.
