Howard papers go to UNSW military academy

Former prime minister John Howard’s personal papers and government records will be housed at the Canberra campus of the University of New South Wales.

Howard’s papers include more than 10,000 documents and covers more than 30 years, spanning Howard’s early political career in the 1970s through to his time as treasurer, leader of the opposition and prime pinister. It will be transferred from the National Archives to the UNSW campus at the Australian Defence Force Academy.

The collection will be publicly available online and in the John Howard Reading Room, which will be opened later in 2014 in the UNSW library in Canberra. The university will receive the first consignment of documents in May 2014, and the remainder of the collection will be transferred progressively, as records become available for public access.
