NSW offers scholarship in memory of Glen Turner

The New South Wales government has announced a university scholarship in honour of the environmental compliance officer Glen Turner, who was shot and killed in July 2014.

The scholarship, which is worth $10,000 a year, is awarded through the University of Newcastle. It will assist a student in the field of natural resource management, which could include a bachelor degree in environmental science or a related field.

Turner died at Croppa Creek, near Moree in northern NSW on 29 July 2014 while inspecting a roadside site with a colleague from the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage. Ian Turnbull, a 79-year old farmer, who had previously clashed with NSW compliance officers over fines for illegal land clearing, was formally charged with his murder.
