The Australian Greens have called for a salary cap to be introduced for university vice-chancellors, following revelations that some are earning more than the prime minister.
In a statement on 10 April, New South Wales federal senator Lee Rhiannon said vice-chancellors were “pocketing massive salary increases” while demanding students pay more for their degrees.
“Universities are public institutions,” she said. “There doesn’t seem to by any justification for vice-chancellors to be paid salaries that are more than twice that of the prime minister.”
