Charles Darwin University is seeking participants for a research project on the mental and physical health of transgender Australians living in the Northern Territory.
Sociology lecturer Stephen Kerry is conducting confidential interviews with transgender and gender diverse people who work with, or volunteer for, organisations providing health and counselling services.
Kerry did an online research survey in 2014 and is hoping to expand the project. The pilot study suggested that transgender people in the NT still faced issues of social isolation, mental illness, suicidal thoughts, unemployment and violence.
